United Way’s Young Leaders Society is hosting its 2nd Nonprofit Board Resource Event – Make Your Mark!.  Young Leaders Society is partnering with Emerging Leaders Ocala to invite Young Professionals throughout Marion County to get more involved in community advocacy by learning about agencies, getting on boards and sitting on committees.  On Thursday, November 5, 11:00am-1:00pm at United Way we will host our second board resource event called “Make Your Mark”.

There will be a panel discussion with community leaders on the importance of being involved in the community and how to be an effective board member.  This will be followed by a speed networking session with agencies and community boards.  We hope to place, you the Young Leader, on local boards and committees that fit your passions to not only further your development, but to move forward the needle on the issues addressed by these organizations.  Not mention it’s great for the resume!  If you are not ready to the leap into board leadership, this can be used as a great opportunity to learn more and see if it’s something you might want for the future.   Hope you will come and enjoy a free lunch and a fun discussion!

Please RSVP to Summer Gill  by October 30 at sgill@uwmc.org.  Feel free to call 732-9696 with any questions.

Second Annual Pajamas and Books for Bedtime

December 1, 2009

Success by 6 at the Early Learning Coalition of Marion County in partnership with United Way of Marion County will host its Second Annual Pajamas and Books for Bedtime. Success by 6 is an initiative that addresses the needs of parents with children birth through age 6.  ELO can assist by donating new PJ’s in various sizes and/or books or by collecting cash donations for PJ’s and books

  • All Pajamas must be new/store bought.  Various sizes are needed in both girl and boy fashions starting from infants through adults sizes (for some of the teenagers).
  • Books can be new or gently used and we are in need of infant picture books, children’s books and chapter books (for pre-teens and teens).

The pajamas and books will be distributed during the holiday season prior to Christmas. All donations are due December 1, 2009. Children receiving the pajamas and books will be prioritized in the following order: 1) children residing in the domestic violence shelter and emergency shelters within Marion County, 2) children residing in maternal and transitional housing, and 3) children residing in low-income households throughout the county.
