Community Service Meeting

September 21, 2009
5:15 pm

At Climate Control Mechanical Services, 707 SW 20th Street, Ocala, FL  34471  Directions: If coming from 200, head East on 200, then take a right on the SW 7th Road (right at the CTAE).  Take 7th Road under the 17th Street bridge and we are on the right.

It’s time to begin planning for the 2009 Holiday Giving Tree.   This is our largest service project of the year.  Anyone interested in helping plan this year’s event is invited to attend the next Community Service meeting.  The Holiday Giving Tree is a joint service project by United Way and ELO whereby local agencies refer families and seniors in need and we promote those needs to the community.  Individuals and companies “adopt” these families and seniors by picking up an Angel card at our Holiday Giving Tree booth located in the mall.  They purchase a gift or a gift card for the person and return it to the booth.  In 2008 the community generously met the needs of 1,200 people out of 1,500 referrals provided by about 20 local agencies.  This year’s event will take place November 27th-December 16th. Planning includes kick-off party, storage of gifts, volunteer scheduling, writing of the Angel cards, meeting with local agencies to promote project, coordinating gift drop off locations, etc. Contact Karen_Brothers@otowfl.com for more information and to RSVP for the meeting.
