Member Spotlight – Dorothy Pitone

What do you do for a living?
I’m the General Manager of Ocala Symphony Orchestra, Inc., a non-profit arts organization that presents concerts and educational programs to over 10,000 residents annually.

What is your favorite weekend activity?
Outdoor activities such as kayaking, gardening, hiking and also hanging out with friends.

What is the best annual local event?
The Fine Arts For Ocala Mother’s Day Symphony Under the Stars concert. I’m not a mom but I love this event because it brings families together to hear great music on one of Ocala’s beautiful golf courses and of course it’s my orchestra!

What do you want all of ELO to know about you?
I LOVE Halloween and horror movies!!!

What is your favorite Ocala/Marion County hang-out?
Anywhere on the downtown square, especially when the weather is nice.

What are your volunteer and professional activities?
League of American Orchestras, Stetson University Alumni Association, Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Business Council, Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Club

Community Service Spotlight – Food for Kids

Food 4 Kids Program

Purpose:  To provide food each weekend during the school year to hungry school aged children and their siblings.  This program reduces the negative effects of hunger on learning.  Food 4 Kids currently feeds over 1300 children by sending backpacks of food home each weekend.  The average cost to feed one child is approximately $5.80 per week.  Food gift cards are distributed during the School’s Winter Break.  Food 4 Kids was started in 2004 with 2 schools and has grown to 26 schools.  Food 4 Kids believes that No child should go to bed hungry.

How can you help?

  • Donate Food (drop off at the Chamber or bring to the August 26th Happy Hour)
  • Contribute financially (drop off your donation to Miranda at the Chamber or give to an ELO Board Member at the August 26th Happy Hour)

Items of Food needed:

  • Canned Meat (Tuna, Vienna Sausages, Spam, etc)
  • Canned Pasta (Spaghettios, Ravioli, Beefaroni, etc)
  • Canned Soup
  • Milk (1 qt) (Shelf stable non-refrigerated)
  • Juice Boxes (any flavor)
  • Macaroni and Cheese (boxed)
  • Peanut Butter (plastic containers)
  • Pudding Cups (lunch box size)
  • Fruit Cups (lunch box size)
  • Cereal (variety pack –single serving)
  • Snack Bars (cereal bars, granola bars, etc)
  • Pop Tarts
  • Crackers (filled with peanut butter or cheese)
  • Snacks (pretzels, cookies, raisins – all single servings)
  • NO CANDY

Community Legal Services, Marion County Children’s Alliance and the City of Ocala is asking for your support again this year to collect school supplies for the

SEVENTH ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

AUGUST 14, 2010, 10 A.M. – 2 P.M.

ED CROSKEY RECREATION CENTER  1510 N.W. 4TH STREET, OCALA 

The suggested School Supply List for 2010 – 2011:

 Glue sticks

Glue (8 ounce bottle)

Crayola Crayons (box of 16 and 24)

Scissors (Safety scissors for kindergarten and blunt point for elementary)

Highlighters

Markers (washable for kindergarten)

Crayola colored pencils (set of 12)

Pencils (no. 2)

Duo Tang Folders with pockets

Rulers

Ruled 3×5 index cards

Erasers

Pens (Black and Blue)

Pencil sharpeners

Notebook paper (wide ruled and college ruled)

Composition Books
